ContactsCity-owned flats
The city lets its own affordable flats. They are allocated via an application form (online or PDF, in German).
- Taxable assets at most CHF 400,000
- Taxable income at most four times the annual net rent
- Minimum occupancy: 3.5 rooms from 2 people, 4.5 rooms from 3 people (incl. 1 child or person in initial training), 5.5 rooms from 4 people (incl. 2)
Retirement flats
For older people, the city lets retirement flats (including Bergli, Frauensteinmatt, Neustadt 2). Applications go through a separate waiting list.
Cooperatives
Cooperatives let flats at cost rent, i.e. without profit. As a rule, only members can apply. So it pays to become a member early – even before a specific letting.
- Gewoba – non-profit housing cooperative: become a member, register interest
- awzug – general housing cooperative Zug: membership application, allocation according to its rules
Cantonal rent subsidies
Around 1,900 flats in the canton fall under the housing promotion act and are let at cost rent. Low-income households can also receive rent subsidies there. The landlord knows whether a flat qualifies.
